Connect the Dots

Do you remember connect-the-dot puzzles from your childhood? You know the ones with the tiny dots and numbers that when connected formed a picture, one we usually coloured in.

I want you to consider how our lives are much like those puzzles.

Upon the page is an array of numbers scattered in an unrecognizable pattern just ready to be discovered. As the pencil begins to move upon the paper, slowly an image starts to appear. Our excitement level rises, anticipation grows as we work towards the big reveal!

When done, our eyes feast upon the picture we created from putting together those clever little numbered dots.

I believe that God has given each of us our very own personalized connect-the-dots puzzle.

It’s our life!

Our lives are a blessed and divine gift from our Heavenly Father.  Psalm 139: 13 -16 assures us:

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

Imagine that for a moment. Truly consider what these words mean – you formed my inward parts, you knitted me together in my mother’s womb (v.13).

We are made by God – you and I are hand-crafted by the Father of all the Earth.

He selected each and every part of us, He chose what we were to look like, our personalities, our intellect, our abilities – all were determined by Him.

God was with us in our mother’s womb while the world was yet to know us. His eyes saw us before the world could. As the psalmist writes: my frame was not hidden from you, your eyes saw my unformed substance (v.15).

…and God did not stop there: in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them (v.16).

This detail should appeal to those of you who are planners and type-A personalities: God knows each of our days ahead of time; He has them all planned and waiting for us.

Let us be humbled by God’s careful attention to creating us, forming us and preparing a way for us. Father of the heavens and earth loves us that much, and beyond measure.

Not just this psalm, but the Bible in its entirety, is a love story!  A story that says, “God loves us!”

We know this love through His son Jesus Christ who died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. God raised Him from the grave, and we have eternal life if we declare Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

How then do we begin to love our Father in a way that resembles this example he has set for us?

Well, we need to connect the dots that God has created for us! We need to pick up our pencils and work towards completing the puzzle that is our life!

Each dot on the page of our lives is there as a blessed gift from God. Each dot reveals his divine purpose for our lives. Each dot is an expression of the unfathomable love our Father has for each of us.

Let us abide faithfully in our Lord as we connect the dots of our life; our eternal lives. Let us trust in all the dots (the easy ones and challenging ones) that the Lord God has placed on our page and faithfully follow Jesus.

Sister, I pray for you to have a steadfast heart that clings to the Lord.  I pray that you recognize the beautiful dots that God has placed before you and that you keep with Him closely as He reveals the beauty of those dots – your life and His glory and majesty within it.
